When it comes to school athletics, safety and performance go hand in hand. At Louisville Male High School, the existing track had reached a point where it was no longer meeting the needs of student-athletes or the expectations of the community.
That’s where we came in.
At PSI Paving, Inc., we were proud to be called on to mill and repave the high school’s track — a project that not only improved the facility but also brought meaningful visibility to a cause close to our hearts.
A Track Ready for a Fresh Start
Louisville Male High School boasts a large, well-used athletic stadium complete with grandstands, bleachers, and a central field. Over the years, its track surface had deteriorated from heavy use and weather exposure. The school’s goal was clear: provide student-athletes with a smooth, safe, and durable surface that would last for years to come.
Before any paving could begin, we had to remove the existing track surface — a delicate task considering the confined working area and the permanent stadium infrastructure surrounding it.
Precision Milling in a High-Profile Space
Using specialized milling equipment, we began the process of removing the worn asphalt. This is always a highly coordinated part of any athletic facility upgrade. The key is precision — the milling needs to be clean and consistent, especially when the new surface must meet performance and drainage standards.
In the photo above, you’ll see our team in action: the milling machine steadily grinding away the old surface, while the conveyor directs material into one of our dump trucks. That truck happens to be a special one — wrapped in bold puzzle-piece graphics and the phrase: “Autistic Not Less, Just Different – Autistic & Perfect.” It’s part of our ongoing effort to raise awareness and celebrate neurodiversity. It’s not just a truck; it’s a rolling statement of support.
Working in a live school environment adds complexity. We had to carefully manage equipment access, minimize noise, and ensure safety at every step — all while keeping the surrounding bleachers and infrastructure protected.
A Track That’s Ready to Perform
Once the surface was fully milled and prepped, the site was ready for the next phase: new asphalt installation. While that’s not shown in this particular image, what you see here is a clean slate — the critical midpoint in the transformation.
By preparing the surface with care and precision, we set the stage for a finish that will not only look great but also support peak athletic performance.
